John Massaro, Principal
John Massaro began his teaching career in Cresskill in 2001 and was voted Cresskill Middle School “Teacher of the Year” in 2009. Prior to his current role as principal, Mr. Massaro served as assistant principal and science department lead teacher and supervisor from 2008 to 2015. He has taught various science classes in both the middle school and high school, including Integrated Science 7, biology, chemistry, and physics. Mr. Massaro was the Head Girls Soccer Coach from 2002-2011, and has also assisted with girls’ basketball, middle school track and field, and baseball. Mr. Massaro embraces his role to support a positive school culture that empowers students to explore their interests and develop their talents.
Melissa Cavins, Assistant Principal
Melissa Cavins is the newest addition to the Cresskill MS/HS team. Mrs. Cavins comes to us from the Ridgefield Park school district, where she served as Supervisor of World Languages, ESL, and Mathematics for three and a half years. For nine years prior, she was a teacher at Ridgefield Park Junior-Senior High School, where she taught Italian 7, Italian 8, Italian 1, Italian 2, Italian 3, Spanish 1, ESL 1, ESL 3, and ESL 4. During that time, Mrs. Cavins also coached cheerleading, advised the National Honor Society, Yearbook staff, and Italian and Latin Clubs. Her professional interests lie in second language acquisition, student social/emotional well-being, and the influence of extracurricular activities on student achievement. As Assistant Principal, she plans to support the district's mission to foster lifelong learning, and develop supportive relationships with faculty, students, and parents.
Janelle Amato Ph.D., Supervisor of Special Services
Dr. Amato joined the Cresskill School District in 2006 as the district’s school psychologist. She performed individual assessments that included psychological and social/emotional functioning. Additionally, she collaborated with teachers to help maximize learning in the classroom. She is currently the Supervisor of Special Education and oversees programs ranging from age three to twenty-one.
Beth Del Vecchio, Supervisor of Physical Education/Health, Athletic Director
Ms. Del Vecchio has been the Director of Athletics, Activities, Health and Physical Education since 1999. In 2010, Beth was inducted into the New Jersey State Coaches Association Hall of Fame for Volleyball. Ms. DelVecchio is currently in her 31st year as an AD. She is also entering her 19th year at Cresskill.
Jill Kurek, K-12 Supervisor of Math
Mrs. Jill Kurek joined the Cresskill teaching staff in 2007 as a mathematics teacher. She has taught seventh and eighth grade Mathematics, Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry in Cresskill Middle School. In Cresskill High School, she has taught Algebra I,Probability/Statistics, Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus, and Calculus Honors. Mrs. Kurek has served as co-adviser of the Middle School Yearbook for the past five years. She is currently the Supervisor of Mathematics and oversees K-12 mathematics curriculum.
Sean Conlon, K-12 Supervisor of Social Studies
Mr. Sean Conlon joined the Cresskill teaching staff in 2011 and taught for four years as a fifth grade teacher at Merritt Memorial School. Prior to working in Cresskill, he worked in both elementary and middle school general and inclusive settings. served as an elementary school LATIC coach, and last year helped to create an elementary teacher book club. He has a variety of certifications including K-6 Elementary School teacher, Subject Matter Social Studies Specialization Grades 5-8, Teacher of Students with Disabilities, and K-12 Supervisor.
Alexis Shalhoub, K-12 Supervisor of Science
Alexis Shalhoub started teaching in the Cresskill School District in 2007. Throughout the past eight years she has taught a variety of courses in the middle and high school including: Science 6, Science 7, Biology, Forensic Science, STEM courses, Natural Disasters, and Bioethics. She holds Master’s degrees in Biological Science Education and Educational Learning and Technology. Since 2009 she been involved in planning and facilitating several professional development workshops within the district focused on best teaching strategies. Alexis has attended a myriad of out of district workshops over the past few years on instructional leadership, science instruction, and technology infusion.
Julie Keating, Supervisor of Business, Art, and Music
Julie joined the Cresskill community in 1997. She started as a part-time teacher of Accounting and Technology. When she moved into a full time position, she added various levels of Marketing, MCP Accounting and MCP Business Law to the Business curricula. She was advisor to DECA and achieved State and National recognition. She also served as class advisor to different graduating classes. Julie holds certifications in various administrative positions as well as Masters in Teaching, Educational Leadership, and Special Education/Teacher of Handicap. Adding to responsibilities of K-12 Supervisor of Business, Art & Music and respective curricula, she also coordinates PARCC testing for the district, as well as state reporting and data analysis districtwide.
