Teach Asian American Stories (TAAS) Fellowship, an initiative of AAPI New Jersey, is a nonprofit organization committed to uplifting AAPI voices, advocating for representation and equity, and promoting awareness of AAPI culture, history, and identity. TAAS was created in response to New Jersey’s historic AAPI curriculum law, and plays a crucial role in supporting schools like ours as we work toward more inclusive teaching practices.

Through TAAS we are accessing training and resources to help educators better understand and teach Asian American histories and contributions, ensuring these vital narratives are not overlooked in the classroom. More than just a mandate, this work is about empowering teachers to build classrooms where Asian American students feel seen, valued, and connected to the broader story of America.

Four after-school AAPI workshops have been conducted for Grades 6–12 ELA teachers, each 90 minutes long and designed to provide practical strategies, vetted lesson plans, and culturally relevant texts. Thanks to the support of TAAS, participating educators also received classroom-ready resources, including multiple books and ongoing planning support.

Mrs. Grace Chun, Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction K-12,  officially completed her fellowship with TAAS in May and is now a TAAS Ambassador, continuing to serve as a leader in our school’s efforts to promote equity and cultural understanding.

We are deeply grateful to TAAS and AAPI New Jersey for their partnership and commitment to preparing educators with the knowledge and confidence to integrate AAPI stories into their teaching. We look forward to continuing to grow together.
