Summary of Student Activity Fees

The Cresskill School District student activity fee program offsets the operational costs of our extracurricular, music, and athletic programs.  These fees help ensure the financial stability of these programs and allow the district to continue offering a wide range of opportunities to students.  This initiative is a vital part of our strategy to address a significant funding gap compared to surrounding districts in Bergen County. Despite lower per-pupil funding and additional financial strain from flood-related costs, our goal is to maintain and expand student opportunities without cutting existing programs. 

The revenue generated by these fees will be used exclusively to support our extracurricular programs, including funding new initiatives and covering unanticipated costs like stipends, transportation, and facility maintenance. By charging a single annual fee, we aim to make participation in multiple activities more affordable and easier to manage for families, while also encouraging students to get involved in more clubs and sports. Many high-performing, high-funded districts in our area charge similar fees, and this program helps us stay competitive and continue to provide a high-quality educational experience for our students. Families facing financial hardship are encouraged to speak with a school administrator for assistance.

Activities Requiring a Fee

A fee will be required for activities that have an operational cost to the district. This includes activities that involve expenses such as:

• Bus transportation- for events, games, or trips.

• Stipends- for coaches, advisors, or staff.

• Officials or judges- for athletic competitions or other events.

• Other district costs- related to running a program.
